Managing Galley Changes

Ditch the Spreadsheets

Ever wonder why something so simple can be so time-consuming and daunting to manage? Do you find it difficult to wade through hundreds of pages of information to look for a particular piece of information? And do you feel that with vast numbers of documents, the chance of errors increases significantly? These are just a few of the challenges that catering operations face with manual processes.

AIRLINE CATERING MANAGEMENT SUCCESS CASE

The Right Tool Really Does Make the Difference

BUSINESS CHALLENGE:

A North American airline controlled their galley planning data using a desktop publishing application, resulting in hard-to-manage and, in many cases, duplicated data spanning hundreds of pages. Trying to maintain standards and consistency in their documents was nearly impossible with the free format nature of using off-the-shelf office software tools. Every update required excessive time to ensure that the diagrams reflected continuity with packing details for the requested changes. Sheer data volume meant errors were commonplace and caused consumers of the reports to either question changes or make their own assumptions.

SOLUTION:

The airline chose Paxia Galley Planning (GP). Using this purpose-built software, the airline Galley Load Plan documents were transformed through the availability of a wide variety of automated industry standard reports. Using the centralized Parts catalog and Container catalog, the airline could make changes in a fraction of the time previously taken, speeding up their ability to react to market changes.

AIRLINE CATERING MANAGEMENT SUCCESS CASE

You Can’t Win the Tour de France on a Unicycle (But You Can Join the Circus)

BUSINESS CHALLENGE:

A UK airline outsourced their galley planning data management to a 3rd party using an end-of-life galley planning solution that was developed many years earlier and with negligible reinvestment to keep the technology up to date. The system used Visio in conjunction with a menu planning tool developed using old technology and out-of-date data management techniques. This resulted in a highly labor-intensive approach to galley planning.

SOLUTION:

A business partner of Paxia offered the airline access to Paxia Galley Planning (GP) software in conjunction with other catering services. The implementation of the GP software highlighted significant improvements in the data management approach. The proposed solution highlighted that equivalent business changes took minutes instead of days when using the GP software compared to their legacy system. The improvements were so significant that the airline launched the Paxia Galley Planning (GP) software two months early to avoid further wasted time using their legacy software. The high-quality report output from the GP software has been recognized as the industry standard. It is the primary benefit for our business partner, as GP enables significant efficiencies and opportunities for cost savings.

Get More From Automated Galley Planning

Eliminate duplication with centralized parts and container catalogs

As opposed to an item/part or container appearing 100 times on 100 pages across a range of Office documents, the GP software uses a single instance that would be linked to the equivalent 100 locations in the software. A change to the item/part or container in the centralized parts or container catalogs will be applied to every occurrence of that entity within the galley plans in a single move.

Get the ability to make changes quickly and release to market

Changes to galley plans use a range of time-efficient processes and tools to implement and evaluate changes that meet requirements such as equipment balancing. Reports are generated using the latest versions of the data, on-demand by your vendors, and without the need for any airline intervention.

Enjoy a structured change management workflow and version control

Galley load plans and contents are controlled by version numbering with effective/end dates in conjunction with a draft or published status. Data cannot be changed without publishing a new version of the data with a future effective date, triggering communication to end users that there is a new version.

Get instant global access to published data

A web-based portal provides instant access to published content when the publish button is pressed.

View and review a wide variety of system-generated reports

Over 200 pre-defined reports can be generated from within the system. Data continuity between the reports is error-free because the same data source is being queried in different ways. For example, galley diagrams, packing plans, and items inventory will all reflect the same data, albeit in different data structures and levels of detail.

Get simplified data analysis for decision support

With the data being stored in a database, data required for analysis can be extracted with ease using various export formats and interfaces readily available from the system. Data is filtered on end-user requirements and generated in CSV / XLSX or XML from most pre-defined system reports. Large exports are managed by batch servers and generated behind the scenes to avoid impacting the user experience.

Eradicate equipment balancing issues

Equipment balancing is notoriously challenging at the best of times. Without a system and the tools to quickly cross-check inventory flowing in and out of a station, it can be near impossible to get correct. The system provides several time-saving approaches for analyzing inventory movements and to support and pre-empt problems due to incorrect deadheading decisions.
